ALEXANDER, Brenda L. (Lopez) 80 years old of Framingham, died on Saturday, December 13, 2008. She was the wife of the late Charles B. Alexander who died in October of 1976. Born in Melrose daughter of the late Americo and Hattie (Ingalls) Lopez she had been a resident of Framingham for over forty five years. She was a graduate of Melrose High School and prior to retirement was employed as a salesperson for Jordan March Company in Framingham for over twenty five years. She is survived by 1 son, Mark C. Alexander and his wife Liza of Charlestown, RI; 1 daughter, Wendy Viau and her husband Mark of Boca Raton, Fl, 2 grandsons Christopher Alexander and Justin Viau and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Frederick, Frank, Robert and Laurence Lopez and Mabelle Berry. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham. Committal services and burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant. He was born in Sanford, ME, on Oct. 13, 1942, the son of the late Alfred and Noella (Tanguay) Caron. He was raised and educated in Sanford, ME, and lived in Hamilton until moving to Norwell 13 years ago. Mr. Caron was the Founder and President of Signet Electronic, Inc. in Norwell. He enjoyed golfing and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Patricia D. (Rankin) Caron, 1 son, Bradford S. Caron of Norwell, 1 daughter, Renee M. Mary Caruso BELLINGHAM Mary (Butera) Caruso, of Bellingham, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Milford Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was 82. Born March 25, 1926, in Brighton, daughter of the late John and Matilda (Casinelli) Butera, Mrs. Caruso was raised in the Brighton section of Boston and later moved to West Newton, where she resided for 45 years until moving to her daughter's home in Bellingham in 1991. As a young woman, Mrs. Caruso was a homemaker and seamstress; she enjoyed knitting and sewing clothes for her children. She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved cooking for everyone. She was the beloved wife of the late John Caruso. She is survived by her loving children, Anthony J. Caruso and his wife, Paula J. Caruso, of Plymouth, and Joan Peluso and her husband, Paul S. Peluso, of Bellingham; her siblings, Frank Butera and Rose Sbardelli, both of Weston; and her cherished grandchildren, Andrea Holmes, John A. Caruso, Paul J. Peluso and Robert J. Peluso. In addition, she is survived by many dear sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Norman enjoyed fishing, acrylic painting, woodworking, cooking and gardening. He also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, but above all Norman enjoyed being surrounded by his family. Rene B. Clerc BELLINGHAM Rene B. Clerc, 82, of Bellingham, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Landmark Medical Center, after a long illness. Beloved husband of Rosebelle (Beaulieu) Clerc, he was born in Wrentham in September 1926, son of the late Emile and Fannie (Taft) Clerc. He was the loving father of Sandra Harper and her husband, Raymond, of Bellingham, Joanne Ferland of Holiday, Fla., and the late Jacqueline Griffen, Rosemary Clerc and Margaret Clerc. He also leaves his nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Marguerite Cavanaugh of Las Vegas, Muriel Remillard of South Hiram, Maine, and the late Lillian Poirier, Mary DaCosta, George Clerc and Emile Clerc. Mr. Clerc was a World War II, U.S. Navy veteran, attaining the rank of seaman second class and received the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal. In early years, he worked in textiles and then built houses from the Cape to Maine and the Islands. He later opened his own restaurant in Wrentham, and also worked at Southwood and Norwood Caritas Hospitals. He was devoted to his family and friends and will be greatly missed. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 9 a.m., at Cartiers Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St. (Rte. 126), Bellingham, with a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m., at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. She was born and raised in Fall River, a daughter of Jane (Mocker) Babiarz of Swansea and the late Casimer Babiarz. Marylou was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and received a bachelor's degree from Lesley College. For many years, she had been a manager for the Red Cross Northeast Region blood collection program. Marylous interests were all family oriented, whether cooking, entertaining, world travel or trips to museums. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman with class and dignity, who enjoyed doing the little things to make someone happy. She had been a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church for many years. Marylou was the devoted mother of Julie Ann Connolly and John C. Connolly, both of West Roxbury. Porter W. Dawley Westminster's oldest resident; 100 Westminster Porter W. Dawley, 100, Westminster's oldest resident, died on December 12, 2008 at the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner. He was the husband of the late Dolly (Ferguson) Dawley who died July 20, 2001; they were married for 68 years. Porter was the son of the late George L. and Annabel (Hutchins) Dawley; he graduated from Westminster High School in 1925, from Worcester Academy in 1927 and the University of Michigan in 1931. For his entire working life, he was a principal of Westminster Crackers, and the owner of the Dawley Shepard, Inc. he expanded the cracker business into markets for industrial breadings and other extruded flour-based products. Throughout his life, he served the town of Westminster and civic organizations throughout Worcester County and beyond. He was a former Trustee of Worcester Academy, Past President of the Alumni Association and was inducted into the Worcester Academy Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Presidents Club, Victors Club and Alumni Association of the University of Michigan where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. In Westminster, he served on the Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, School Board, Advisory Board, and Liquor commission and was a member of the First Congregational Church, a director of the Westminster branch of the Red Cross and the Westminster Square and Compass Club. For many years, he played the bass drum in parades and summer concerts for the Westminster Town Band. In Gardner, he was President of the Rotary Club, an incorporator and trustee of Henry Heywood Hospital, Director of the Gardner Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Monadnock Council of Boy Scouts, member of the Gardner Shriners Club, the Chair City Club, the Florence Rangers Band, the Gardner Choral Society, Nevin Glee Club, Novella Made Quartet. In Fitchburg, he was a trustee, vice president and member of the Board of Investments of the former Fitchburg Savings Bank, and director of the Fitchburg YMCA. He played in the Fitchburg American Legion Band and was a member of the Oak Hill Country Club, and the Fay Club. In other service, he was Past Master of the Aurora Lodge, member of the Scottish Rite Bodies 32 degrees, Consistory Valley of Boston Lodge, Council Chapter of Worcester, and Aleppo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Wilmington. He was holder of the Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal from the Grand Lodge. He served on the Board of Catholic Charities and the Worcester Diocese Advisory Board for North Central Catholic Social Services, played in the town band of Townsend and the Townsend Military Band and assisted the Dartmouth College Parents Fund. He was known as a private pilot who took many friends and children for rides, a man who parachuted when he was nearly 60, a runner in local road races and an avid skier. He is survived by two sons, Peter Dawley and David Dawley both of Westminster; three grandchildren, Peter's sons, Porter W. Dawley III, of Longview, Washington, and Eric Dawley of Hubbardston; David's daughter Ana Bessy (Dawley) Cassidy; two great-grandchildren, Antonio and Marisol Cassidy all of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Helen (Dawley) Dunn and his nephew Paul Winston "Win" Dunn who died December 6, 2008. Reanette I. (DuBois) DiMarzio, 87, of 58 Dora St., passed away on Friday in Springfield. She was born in Ware, daughter of Alfred and Georgianna (Ballard) DuBois and lived in Gilbertville most of her life, moving to Ware in 2000. She worked in the textile industry for many years, including time spent as a knitter at the Ware Knitters and the Hardwick Knitted Fabrics Co., until retiring at age 65. She then became a Foster Grandparent at KidStop, where she became Memere to the Children of Ware for the next 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband, William DiMarzio in 1991, and by her six siblings. She is survived by her children, Thomas of Venice, FL, James of Albany, NY, Guy of Rutland, and Roberta of Ware; her grandchildren, Chris, Debbie, Renee, Martin, Britt, Jonathan, Kelly, Sarah, and Marisa, as well as by her great grandchildren, Holly, Johnny, Denver, Julia, Sydney, Nathaniel, and Joshua. Reanette was proof that angels walk among us. She was "the heart and soul" of our family and we will cherish her memory forever.  Francisco Freitas Cabral, husband of the late Adelina Moura (Bernardo) Cabral, died at Morton Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 14 at the age of 85. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose A. and Maria ((Freitas) Cabral. A veteran of the Portuguese Army, he worked as a landscaper for more than 30 years, before moving to the United States in 1986. A communicant of St. Anthony Church, he leaves two sons, Jose B. Cabral of Attleboro, and Antonio B. Cabral of Taunton; a brother, Manuel F. Cabral of Winnipeg, Canada; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antonio, Joao, Jose and Emilia F. Cabral. MANSFIELD Kathleen (Farrer) Harrington of Mansfield died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Norton. She was 86. Mrs. Harrington was the loving wife of 58 years of John M. Harrington. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Mrs. Harrington was the daughter of the late William and Phoebe (Dunn) Farrer. She was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1941, and was also a graduate of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Harrington served for the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the Nurse Corps. She was stationed in both Kyoto, Japan, and the Philippines. Mrs. Harrington had previously lived in Weymouth before moving to Mansfield more than four years ago. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Harrington is survived by her four daughters, Laraine Keating of Hopedale, Kathleen Harrington of Attleboro, Jacelyn OSullivan of Norwood, and Linda Chadwick of Mansfield; and five grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kevin and James Keating, and Meghan and Alyssa Chadwick. In Raynham, December 11, 2008 Joseph F. died after a lengthy illness at Life Care Center in Raynham at the age of 81. He was the husband of the late Helen (Reis) Deane. Born in Taunton and educated in Taunton (Taunton High), Joseph was the son of the late Ralph M. and Elsie E. (Savoy) Deane Sr. Joseph resided on Dighton Avenue and was formerly of South Walker Street in Taunton. Joseph was a retired Postal Worker for 38 years in the city of Taunton and for 15 years was the President of local letter carriers union and held all branch offices except treasurer. Joseph was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans. He also loved to cook, play cards, camp and spend time with his friends at Dunkin’ Donuts on RT 44 (Winthrop St.) in Taunton. Joseph was the father of Deborah “Debi” Sylvia and her husband John of Taunton. Grandfather of Kerry Tolliver and her husband Shawn of Taunton, John “Jay” Sylvia and his wife Torie of Taunton. Brother of Eunice Murphy of Hampton, CT., Ralph M. Deane Jr. of Fall River, and the late Charles Deane, one of the first to die in WWII. Uncle of several nieces and nephews.                                       Of Taunton, died Tuesday December 9th, 2008, at the Morton Hospital after a long illness. He was 80.   Born on January 13, 1928 in Newton, loving son of Yolanda (Nicolazzo) Lupo of Watertown and the late Pasquale Lupo, Mr. Lupo was raised in Newton and lived in Watertown for many years before moving to Taunton over 25 years ago.   Mr. Lupo joined the United States Navy at a young age and served many years and throughout the Korean War.   In his spare time he enjoyed photography, playing cards and grooming pets.   He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Kazue "Kay" (Hirata) Lupo, his devoted son Dustin M. Lupo of Taunton, his siblings Mary (Juppe') Cammisaro and her husband Fred of Shrewsbury, Pasquale Lupo and his wife Maria of Rhode Island, John Ranno and his wife Barbara, Guy Ranno and his wife Ginger all of Florida, and his cherished granddaughter Jessica Lupo Brackett. In addition he is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, & great nephews.   Step-son of the late John "Midge" Piteri, brother of the late Shirley Ranno and brother-in-law of the late Albert Juppe Sr.   A Funeral Service with Military Honors in celebration of Joe's life will be held in the Chapel of the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM (brascofuneralhome.com) on Saturday evening Dec. 13th at 5:00 p.m. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Mary G. (Voci) Williams, 91 years of Taunton, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully December 7, 2008 at home with her family by her side.  She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur A. Williams for 47 years and the daughter of the late Nicola and Emmanuela (Celia) Voci. Born in Philadelphia, Mary moved to Brockton at the age of four; was a graduate of Brockton High School and longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church.   She was the loving mother of Joyce Hayes and her husband Richard of Brockton, Maureen Brillo and her husband Frank of Quincy, Cathy Jackson and her husband James of Bridgewater, Joanne Ferrari and her husband Joseph of Mansfield, Janice Scinta and her husband Louis of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Jeanne Pestana and her husband Thomas of Taunton.  She was the devoted grandmother of Dianne (Hayes) Masel, and Brendan Hayes, Timothy, Jonathan and Caitlin Brillo, Kelly, Kevin and Keith Jackson, Daniel Ferrari, Jenna and Louis Scinta, Jr. and the late Deidre (Hayes) Baril.  She was also the great-grandmother of Austin Masel, Meaghan, Delaney and Maxine Baril, Ryan and Kevin Hayes and Avery and Julia Brillo and sister of Terry Dolan of New Canaan, CT and the late George Voci, Catherine Madan and Nicholas Voci. She recently retired after more than 30 years as Site Manager for Old Colony Elderly Services Meals on Wheels, Manning Towers.  She was also a talented seamstress and taught sewing at the Brockton Evening Adult Enrichment classes at Gilmore School.  She enjoyed painting, embroidery, Bunka and traveling.  Mary had a great sense of humor, and most of all, loved spending time with her family.  She was also a loving and caring mother and grandmother who always put her family first.  She was loved by all and will be dearly missed. MERSEREAU, Clayton Davis, Sr. Of Groton, December 12, 2008 at RiverCourt Residences where he had been a resident for the past 3 years. He was the son of Manning E. and Sadie Mae (Davis) Mersereau, born in Auburn, ME and having grown up in Somerville, MA. He was a graduate of University of Maine in the Class of 1940. Clayton was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army building bridges in Germany, Northern France, and Central Europe. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Medal, and American Service Medal WWII. Clayton was born on January 29, 1916. He married his now deceased wife Barbara (Dunder) Mersereau in Jan. 1947. They resided in Littleton, Massachusetts where they owned and ran the Barker Orchard. Clayton also ran his farm implement business, Middlesex Implement C. in W. Acton. He was a member and Past President of the Concord Rotary Club, served as a Town Assessor for the Town of Littleton, and was a member and Past President of the Mooselookmeguntic Improvement Association in Oqoussoc, ME. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and before his retired years, enjoyed skiing. During his retired years, Clayton and his wife Barbara, summered in Oqoussoc, ME and wintered in Naples, FL. Clayton is survived by his four children, spouses and grandchildren: Marilyn M. Waugh, Lawrence Waugh, and son, Davis D. Oatway, Clayton D. Mersereau, Jr., Kathleen C. Mersereau and sons Eric C., and Timothy D. Mersereau; Manning C. Mersereau, Susan M. Mersereau and daughter Lisa M. Marshall and Gage G. Mersereau. Milden, Evelyn Goldfarb

MILDEN, Evelyn Goldfarb Passed away on December 13 at the age of 96. Born in Rovna, Poland, this remarkable woman first showed her personal strength and verve by coming to the United States in 1921 at the age of nine all by herself. She was raised in the Bronx, New York by her father and step mother. Upon her marriage to the late Edward I. Milden, Evelyn moved to Boston and lived in Roxbury until they relocated to Chestnut Hill. She was an active and enthusiastic member and served in numerous officer capacities in several organizations including being the President of the following charitable organizations: Roxbury Haddasah (Life Member), Roxbury Youth Aliyah, Kiddie Camp and Handicapped Kids. After raising a family and at the age of 62 she became a social worker for the Massachusetts State Welfare Department, an accomplishment unheard of in the fifties. Upon retirement, she and her husband wintered in Florida. In her later years, she moved to the senior residence of Orchard Cove in Canton where she was popular and active in numerous activities. She is survived by her children: Elaine and Bernard Goldin of Boynton Beach Florida and Cape Cod, Gerald Milden of Nashville TN and Chatham, MA, Michele and Dr. Michael Wiener of Alexandria VA, three grandchildren, Dianne, John and Randi Goldin, two great-grandchildren Adam and Perri Beth Goldin, two sisters, Lillian Mazurek and Sylvia Weiner of New York, and several nieces including Arlene Bernstein of Newton MA and Thelma Hilibrand of Cherry Hill NJ, plus great nephews and nieces. Her vigor and vivaciousness and keen sense of humor will be missed by all her relatives and friends. Neilson, John A.

LAKEVILLE John A. Neilson, age 92 years, of Lakeville, died peacefully, Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Alden Court Nursing Center, in Fairhaven, with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Lois A. (Demers) Neilson. Born and raised in Middleboro, he was a son of the late Niels and Marie (Thomson) Nielson. John was a graduate of Middleboro High School and of Lowell Technical School. He had lived in Lakeville since 1960 and had worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 32 years, until his retirement as a professional regional land surveyor. In his early years, he worked for W.T. Grant Co. and the Blue Plate Restaurant. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force, during World War II, for four years, as a technical sergeant, radio operator. Nearing the end of the war, the aircraft he was on was shot down over Germany and he parachuted from the aircraft and became a Prisoner of War of Germany and was in several P.O.W. camps. He was a member of the VFW Post 3188, the Middleboro Senior Citizens, AARP association, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Registered Land Surveyors and Engineers, Friendly Seniors of Lakeville and a charter member of the original Middleboro Varsity Club, which later became the Mitchell Memorial Club. He was also a member of Central Baptist Church since 1955, serving on the Standing Committee and other committees for many years. He enjoyed gardening, dancing with the Nemasket Line Dance Club and was devoted to his family and church. He is survived by two sons, Brad Nielson and his wife Lois of Lakeville and Rich Nielson and his wife Nancy of Lakeville; a granddaughter, Ashley Nielson of Lakeville; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Helen Harding, George Nielson and Niel Nielson. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at 10 a.m., in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville. Interment will follow in Nemasket Cemetery in Middleboro. O'CONNOR, Margaret W. 99, died Oct. 30 at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home. Born in Watertown, raised and educated there. Margaret was a W.W. II Veteran of the U.S. Navy Corps. She served in Paris Island, Chelsea, MA. and Portsmouth, VA. at the Naval Hospitals. Discharged as a Lt., she was a graduate of Carney Hospital School of Nursing. Margaret worked at Carney Hosptital and a Physician's office until retirement in 1973. She lived in Watertown until moving to Centerville in 1977. Member of the American Legion Post #2099 in Watertown for over 50 years. She is predeceased by siblings Catherine Vahey, Anna O'Connor, John O'Connor, Helen Trapp, Agnes Woods and Louise Kirwin. Aunt of Patricia and her husband Robert Morley of Pocasset, J. Robert and his wife Ann O'Connor of Wareham, Patrick Woods of Pocasset, William and his wife Fran Woods of Peabody. Mrs. Pagnani was the beloved wife of the late Louis and mother of 5 sons, Robert L. Hudson, NY, the late William of Braintree, Bobby of Eureka, UT, Douglas of Hanson, and Louis Jr., of Quincy, and 3 daughters, Paula Woerner of Livermore, CA, Brenda Callahan of Quincy and Maria Baylis of Pembroke. She is also survived by 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Born in Norwood on September 2, 1932, Mrs. Pagnani was the daughter of the late Lionel and Catherine (Rose) McElroy. She was a graduate of Dedham High School and worked at National Fire Protection Agency as a Customer Service Representative for 15 years. Doris also sold Avon products for 35 years. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was an avid walker and loved to crochet. John A. Root III MANCHESTER, N.H. John Adam Root III, age 71, of Manchester, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Elliot Hospital, after a prolonged illness. Mr. Root was born Jan. 23, 1937, in New Britain, Conn., a son of the late John A. II and Lena Root. After he graduated from high school, he served three years in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Massachusetts, where he worked in the Quincy Shipyard, the Veteran's Affair Medical Center, in Brockton, Mass., and was a tree climber for many years. He often volunteered his time at the Salvation Army. His favorite hobby was taking long rides in his beloved Cadillacs. His passion in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. RUBIN, Dr. Leon Eli Of New York City, formerly of Winthrop, Wayland and Newton, beloved by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2008. He was born April 24, 1921 in Winthrop to Dr. Maurice Rubin and Celia Markell Rubin. Loving brother of Barbara, Irma and Solomon. After graduating from MIT in 1942, he enlisted in the Army and served with distinction in WWII in the Pacific, receiving a battlefield commission as a 2nd lieutenant, as well as a Purple Heart. Leon received an MS from Boston Univ. and a Ph.D. from Columbia Univ. in Chemistry, and then had a long career at Polaroid, where he contributed substantially to the development of instant photography. He was a loving husband to Laura Solomon, who passed away in 1968 and to Claire Dexter Robbins, his devoted wife who survives him. He is also survived by his loving sons Kenneth, Howard and Jonathan, daughters-in-law Marlene, Mary and Sheri, stepchildren Jill and Dale, sons-in-law Dan and Aaron, grandchildren Laura, Haley, Molly, Emma, Nicholas, Annalee and Jay, and great-granddaughter Cayla. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Mt. Sinai Hospital who showed remarkable care and dedication. Memorial service at Frank E. George A. Senkavitch, 82, of 45 Dorchester St., died Saturday, December 13, in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave., North. His wife of 43 years, Olga H. (Babrauskas) Senkavitch died in 1993. He leaves a son, George Senkavitch and his fiancée, Maria Fahey of Worcester; two daughters, Gloriann McCullough and her husband, Graham of Cherry Valley and Christine Stone and her husband, Michael of Worcester; a sister, Mary Senkavitch of Worcester; four grandchildren, Eric Senkavitch of Worcester; Allison McCullough of Westborough; Maureen McCullough of Leicester; David Stone of Worcester and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Joseph Savage, William Senkavitch, Emily Stockmal and Lillian Rigere. He was born in Worcester, a son of William and Anna (Maizeika) Senkavitch and lived here all his life. Mr. Senkavitch was a distribution clerk for 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1992. He was a graduate of Worcester Boy's Trade High School. Mr. Senkavitch was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 69th Infantry Division in Europe. He received the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the Lithuanian War Veteran's Organization, the Lithuanian Naturalization and Social Club, the Greendale Retired Men's Club and was a life member of the Singletary Rod & Gun Club. He was a member of St. John Church now the combined St. John / St. Casimir Parish. George was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. Elaine Smith accomplished singer, of Fitchburg Fitchburg Mrs. Elaine (Rowe) Smith, of Fitchburg, died on Thursday, December 11 at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster. She was born on April 21, 1922 in Bangor, Maine the only child of Elmer B. and Beulah (Cole) Rowe. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1939 and went on to Gordon College of Theology and Missions receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Theology in 1945. She was the wife of Robert George Smith who died on February 21, 2002. Mrs. Smith was a fourth grade teacher for twenty-nine years at the Ashby Elementary School. She shared her love of nature with her students and remained in contact with many of them after her retirement from teaching. She was a life member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. Elaine was an accomplished singer, serving for many years as the soprano soloist of Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg. She began her musical career at Gordon College as part of the Victory Trio during World War II. She was a member of the Audubon Society and led numerous nature and bird trips in the area. One of her favorite spots to bird was at Coggshall Park. She and her husband, Robert, were members of the Camera Club of Fitchburg. They both were frequent competitors and won many awards for their photographs. Elaine had her pictures on display at Epcot Center in Florida, as well as on brochures and state maps. Some of their pictures are currently on display at Rollstone Church. She leaves Kathleen Rowe of Ashburnham, Rebecca Pandiscio of Westminster, Sandra Waaramaa of Fitchburg and Elise Hendrickson of Elmhurst, Illinois as well as many friends. SMITH A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 2pm at Rollstone Congregational Church, Fitchburg. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Forest Hill Cemetery. Santina "Sally" (Gallo) Verdolino, 94, of Worcester, formerly of Auburn, passed away Friday, December 12th 2008 in the St. Francis Home, surrounded by family. Sally's husband of 47 years, John Verdolino passed away in 1985. Sally is survived by her devoted children, David A. Verdolino and his wife Claudia of Voluntown, CT, Paul J. Verdolino and his wife Donna of Grafton, Jean M. Marketkar and his wife Nandu of Boylston; two sisters, Anna Perrone of Worcester and Mary Lefrancois of Orange; seven grandchildren, Jocelyn Ascenzi and her husband Michael, Neil Marketkar, Rebecca, Bryan, Amy, Michael and Sean Verdolino and his wife Christine; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Carmen and Paul Gallo, and five sisters, Rose Fillipone, Josephine Rose, Phyllis Bailey, Natalina Armendo and Lucy Floran all pre deceased her. Sally was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Anastasis (Tufano) Gallo. Sally grew up in Worcester, moved to Auburn for over 62 years before returning to Worcester in 2002. Sally once worked as a Nurse Aide for the former Worcester City Hospital. During World War II, Sally was one of the famed "Rosie the Riveter" for the Reed & Prince Company and a member of the Civil Defense Patrol. Sally was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn, its Choir, Senior Citizen's group and Catholic Women's League. Sally was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, whose enjoyment revolved around her family, being with them and watching them grow, her garden and reading her many perodicals. Over the years Santina contributed to many charities throughout her life. Sally's funeral will be held Wednesday, December 17th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St. Auburn. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 17th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 1 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn.

On December 4, 2008  William W. died at home in Taunton after a short illness.  He was 86.  The son of Anne (Waltman) and Wallace Smith, Bill resided in Taunton his entire life. “Hardly a Rolling Stone” as he loved to say.  He was employed by Allendale Insurance, now FM Global , for nearly 40 years and retired as vice-president and controller.  During WWII, he was a member of the United States Army and served for four years in Europe, primarily in England and Italy.  Before and after his military service, he worked for General Electric on Weir Street and, ever after, reminisced with fellow Tauntonians who had also worked there. A graduate of Bentley College, Bill was a CPA, and also earned CPCU and CLU credentials.  He was a member of the Financial Executives Institute (FEI) and, in Taunton, of the Elks and Weir Senior Citizens.  He was a lifetime member of Segregansett Country Club and a longtime member of Agawam Hunt in Rumford, R.I.  An avid bridge player, he spent many happy hours with various bridge groups and clubs in R.I. and MA.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, December 13.
