Charles H. Baker


  HOPKINTON - Charles Hem Baker, 54, of Hopkinton, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at his home in Hopkinton.

He was the husband of Ednamarie Baker.

Born in Lancaster, N.H., he was the son of the late Hallett and Thelma (Hem) Baker. A lifelong resident of Ashland, Mr. Baker worked as a truck mechanic.

He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Besides his wife, he leaves five children, Laura Baker of Ashland and Seth Baker of Grafton and their mother, Janet Baker of Ashland, and Alicia, Carly, and James Baker of Ashland; one granddaughter, Helayna Baker; and three brothers, Hallett Baker of Holliston, David Baker of Hopkinton, and Robert Baker of Concord, N.H.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., in Glenwood Cemetery in South Natick.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com), 325 Main St. in Ashland.

Eileen Albert
FRAMINGHAM - Eileen (Samways) Albert, 89, a resident of Framingham for several years, formerly of Brewer, Maine, Waltham and Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at St. Patrick's Manor.
She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Albert Jr.
Born in Brewer, daughter of the late Henry and Delia (Flaherty) Samways, she was a graduate of John Bapst High School and Beals Business College. For a time, Mrs. Albert worked for New England Telephone Co. and Dead River Co. in Maine. Locally, she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and faithfully attended Mass.
She leaves a son, Joseph Albert III; a sister, Carolyn Harrington; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was the mother of the late Martha Joe Houston and sister of the late Catherine Kiah, Edward Samways and Margaret McPherson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 8, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Manor Chapel, 863 Central St., Framingham.
Burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, Maine, will be private.
A visiting hour will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, from 8:30 a.m., until the time of the Mass.

James J. Casey
LORETTO, Ky. - James J. Casey, 83, of Loretto, Ky., formerly of Brockton, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky., after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Jane E. (Lange) Casey.
Born and raised in Milford, son of the late James J. and Elizabeth L. (McCarty) Casey, he graduated from St. Mary High School in Milford.
During World War II, he served in the Navy in the Atlantic/European Theatre, and was involved with troop transport and participated in the invasion of Normandy.
Following the war, he settled in Brockton where he served with the Brockton Police Department for 35 years, and was a member of the police honor guard. 
A horse racing enthusiast, he also enjoyed Raynham dog track. Mr. Casey was a regular at Saturday night bingo at St. Patrick Church, where he was a communicant while living in Brockton. For the past eight years he had lived in Loretto.
He leaves his children, Jane (Casey) Brown of Palmer, Alaska, James J. Casey of Brockton and Joseph M. Casey of Easton; seven grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Morris of Holliston and Anna Casey of Loretto; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Joan M. (Casey) Soveral and John P. Casey, and brother of the late William Casey. 
The funeral will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 a.m., from Conley Funeral Home (www.conleyfuneralhome.com), 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, followed by a funeral Mass, at 9 a.m., at St. Patrick Church.
Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at a later date.
Visiting hours are Friday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. 

LeeAnn Connors
LITTLETON - LeeAnn (Varney) Connors, 40, of Littleton, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at her residence.
She was the wife of Stephen Connors of Littleton.
Born in Framingham, daughter of Jean (Patterson) Varney of Bellingham and the late Kenneth Varney, she grew up in Bellingham and was a graduate of Bellingham High School, Class of 1983. She continued her education at Blackstone Regional Technical School.
Mrs. Connors worked as an inspector at Data Translation for five years before her marriage in 1989. She made her home in Billerica and then in Littleton for the past 15 years. 
She was a member of Kingdom Hall in Franklin and enjoyed her family very much.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves her children, Christopher A. and Rebecca Lee Connors, both of Littleton; and her brother and sister, Christopher J. Varney of Franklin and Amy E. Varney of Bellingham.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m., at Kingdom Hall, 250 Maple St., Franklin.

Frederick P. D'Andrea
MYSTIC, Iowa - Frederick Pfeiffer D'Andrea, 62, of Mystic, Iowa, formerly of Framingham, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at his residence.
He was the husband of Linda A. (Waller) D'Andrea.
He was the son of the late Frederick J. and Edna (Pfeiffer) D'Andrea.
Mr. D'Andrea was employed by General Motors in Framingham for more than 20 years. In recent years, he and Mrs. D'Andrea owned and operated F & L services in Mystic. 
For the past 29 years, he loyally served as a Christian minister of Jehovah's Witnesses in the congregations of Framingham, Ashland, Natick and Centerville, Iowa. He enjoyed the times spent talking with others about God's word, the Bible and the wonderful promises it holds out for mankind.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Bradley and Tammy D'Andrea, and a grandson, Jordan D'Andrea, all of Ashland; his sister, Vicky York of Maine; and his nephews, Richard, Ronald and Robert D'Andrea, and Eric York.
He was the the brother of the late Richard D'Andrea.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, in Centerville, Iowa, at the Centerville High School.

Paul W. Gallier
MARLBOROUGH - Paul W. Gallier, 74, of Marlborough, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester.
He was the husband of Patricia D. (Patterson) Gallier for 45 years.
Born in Stoney Ridge, Ohio, son of the late Frank W. and Jennie (Patten) Gallier, he lived in Marlborough for the past 25 years.
He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
He was then drafted into the Air Force and served in Korea.
On his return from the war, he went back to school and received a master's degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Oklahoma University.
He was co-founder of Aspen Technology of Cambridge in 1983 and served as vice president of marketing until his retirement in 1996.
A longtime active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Sudbury, he was chairman of the board of the Baptist Church Foundation of New England in Northborough, which was very important in his life with his vision of a corpus of funds to underwrite church planting and leadership development.
He was a life member of the Ham Radio Club in Marlborough. An avid cyclist, he cycled the Italian Alps while on vacations, and rode throughout the states of Virginia, Georgia and most of Massachusetts. In good weather, he commuted to work on his bike.
Most of all, he loved his wife and family.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Christina D. Davidson and her husband, Neal, of Sterling, Peggy L. Gallier of Leominster, Joy C. Tolan and her husband, James, of Hudson and Steven P. Gallier and his wife, Alisson, of Bow, N.H.; a sister, Ann Donahue of Arizona; and nine grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Michelle Kittredge, Joshua and Benjamin Davidson, Jenna and Jesse Tolan, and Christopher and Lauryn Gallier.
Following private burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough, a life celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 am., at First Baptist Church of Sudbury, 162 Landham Road, Sudbury. A reception will follow at the church. 

Harvey G. Gendreau
FRAMINGHAM - Harvey G. Gendreau, 90, a resident of Framingham for the past four years, formerly of North Ft. Meyers, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at MetroWest Medical Center.
Mr. Gendreau was the husband of Madelyn (Meggison) Gendreau, who died in 2002. 
The couple lived in Ft. Myers from 1982 to 2002, in Sudbury from 1965 to 1980, and in Andover from 1980 to 1982.
Born in Lowell, where he was raised and educated, Mr. Gendreau was a graduate of Lowell Technical Institute, now a division of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he received his degree in chemistry.
He served as a flight officer/bombardier with the Army Air Corps in World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was the Northeast regional manager for Sandoz, a multinational chemical and pharmentical company in Switzerland. He was a former member of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro for 40 years and was a past chairman of AATCC, a scientific association of textile chemists.
Mr. Gendreau leaves his children and their spouses, David C. and Mary Gendreau of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stephen H. and Mary Catherine Gendreau of Oak Creek, Wis., Harvey W. and Barbara Gendreau of Framingham and Elaine and John Giknis of Middletown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his brothers, James Gendreau of Dracut and Raymond Gendreau of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Burt and Willis Gendreau.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m., from the Duckett-J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute (www.MEM.com), Boston Post Road (Rte. 20), Sudbury, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury.
Private burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.

Warren Hayes
NATICK - Warren E. Hayes, 83, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at his home following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Jennie M. (Maloy) Hayes of Natick. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Monday.
Born in Cambridge, son of the late Rev. Wallace E. Hayes and Emma A. (Timberlake) Hayes, he spent his younger years in Rutland. He was a resident of Natick for the past 54 years and lived in Cochituate.
He was a graduate of Williston Academy in East Hampton.
He served during World War II with the Army for nearly three years on the hospital ship USS Dogwood. 
He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Boston University and a bachelor's degree in business and accounting from Bentley College.
For more than 35 years, Mr. Hayes was an accountant. He worked at Ludlow Corp. in Needham for 22 years, and was then associated with Van Leer Flexibles, Inc. in Revere and Woburn for 10 years. He retired in 1986 but continued to work as a tax preparer at H&R Block of Natick for several years. 
He was an active member for 53 years at the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate. For 40 years, he served as the financial secretary for the church, as well as serving as a trustee and usher for several years. He also served on the finance committee of the church and several other church committees. He was a member of the VFW of Natick and bowled for several years with the interchurch league.
His hobbies included an interest in stamps and researching information on railroads. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Mark W. Hayes and Mary Ellen Hayes of Natick, Anne F. Hayes-Grillo and her husband, Michael Grillo, of Penobscot, Maine, and Jane A. Low of Waltham; his grandchildren, Harry and Peter Grillo of Penobscot, Maine, and Julie and Karyn Low of Waltham; and his son-in-law, Bruce E. Low of Framingham.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., at Community United Methodist Church, corner of Damon Street and Rte. 27, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Pehrson, pastor, officiating.
The family will have a private burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Cochituate Village, Wayland.

Ann E. Lane
WESTBOROUGH - Ann E. (Nielson) Lane, 84, of Westborough, formerly of Framingham and Natick, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was the wife of Edward P. Lane, who died in 1989.
A Natick resident for more than 30 years, she was born in Ames, Neb., the daughter of the late Harry and Mary E (McGee) Nielson.
She leaves seven children, Ann Tucker of Westborough, Alan Lane of Hampton, N.H., Gregory Lane of Framingham, Margaret ``Reta'' Lane of Framingham, Mark Lane of Tamworth, N.H., Stephanie Lane of Westborough and Kevin Lane of Tamworth; one sister, Katherine Chiacchia of Natick; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late John and Edward Lane Jr., and sister of the late Mary Sobieski.
A private funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, Sept. 8, at St. Patrick Church, Natick.
Burial will follow in St Patrick Cemetery.

Robert J. `Bob' Lynch
NEEDHAM - Robert J. ``Bob'' Lynch, 88, a longtime resident of Needham, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at EPOCH of Chestnut Hill.
He was the husband of Doris (Pitman) Lynch for 59 years.
Born and raised in Boston, a graduate of Cathedral High School, he had a long career in the airline industry and retired as the district sales manager of Sabena Air Lines in 1991.
He served as a navigator in the Air Force during World War II. Besides his wife, he leaves his children and their spouses, Robert J. Jr. and Maureen Lynch of Westport, Conn., Jane and Robert Shilalie of Holliston, Kathryn L. and Walter Meinelt of Topsfield, Stephen D. and Barbara Lynch of Westwood, Mary Jo and James Sharkey of Natick, and John W. and Maryann Lynch of Melrose; and 13 grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Stephen J. Lynch and Lillian Eager.
A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m., from the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home (www.gfdoherty.com), 1305 Highland Ave., Needham, followed by a funeral Mass, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Needham.

Marie R. Maslowski
MARLBOROUGH - Marie R. (Burke) Maslowski, 87, of Marlborough, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Marlborough Hospital after being stricken ill earlier in the day. 
She was the wife of Benjamin Maslowski, who died in 1978. They were married for 31 years. 
She was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Roberts) Burke, and lived in Marlborough all of her life.
A graduate of Marlborough High School and Chandler Secretarial School, she worked for the former New England Telephone Co. for a short time. She also worked as a receptionist at Marlborough Hospital for 20 years.
She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a charter member of the former Saint Jude's Society. She was a longtime member of both the former Ace of Clubs women's group and the Newman Club in Marlborough. Her greatest joy was devoting most of her time to her children and grandchildren. 
She leaves three sons, John Maslowski of Billerica, Francis Maslowski of Concord and Paul Maslowski of Boylston; two daughters, Ellen Kneeland of Norfolk and Jean Maslowski of Hawaii; two sisters, Florence Conrad of Marlborough and Jean Petrits of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Henry Burke.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 a.m., from the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St.

MARLBOROUGH - The remains of Lineida Olivera Gonzalez, 35, of Marlborough, were found Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Rutland.

Mary W. Shaughnessy
MILLIS - Mary W. (Anderson) Shaughnessy, 99, of Millis, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, in her home.
She was the wife of Martin L. Shaughnessy Sr., who died in 1962.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Gustof and Anna (Ringdahl) Anderson, Mrs. Shaughnessy was raised in the Roxbury section of Boston and lived in Framingham for many years before moving to Sherborn, where she lived until moving to Millis six years ago.
She was a rug twister for the Roxbury Carpeting Co. for many years.
While at Wood Haven in Sherborn, she enjoyed crocheting and other crafts.
She leaves her daughter, Edith Savage of Millis; her sons, Martin Shaughnessy Jr. of Framingham and Ronald Shaughnessy of Bay Minette, Ala.; her grandchildren, Sandra Baker, Eric Snellman, Marc Savage, Paula Savage, Debra Houle, Maureen Thomas and Lee Shaughnessy; and 11 great-grandchildren. 
She was the mother of the late Ruth Snellman.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 3 Barber St., Medway, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, Millis, at 10.

Rose M. Strassheim
FRAMINGHAM - Rose M. Strassheim, 78, of Framingham, known as ``Sis Murray,'' died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007.
She was the wife of Richard L. Strassheim, who died in 2005.
She was born in Wellesley, daughter of the late Martin and Gertrude Murray. After graduating from Wellesley High School, she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper.
After marrying in 1965, Mr. and Mrs. Strassheim settled in Framingham to raise their two children. She remained in Framingham after the death of her husband.
Mrs. Strassheim was known for her strong sense of determination and courageous attitude. She was also known as the life of the party. She loved to talk at length with her family and many dear friends. She will be remembered for her love of life and good conversation.
She leaves her children, David Strassheim Sr. of Framingham and Gail Woodburn of Sellersville, Pa; her brothers, Thomas Milton Murray of Natick and Robert F. Murray of Wellesley; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Strassheim, and son-in-law, John Woodburn; and four grandchildren, Samantha and David Strassheim Jr., and Collin and John Michael Woodburn.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham.

Zellah B. Thompson
ASHLAND - Zellah B. (Stone) Thompson, 100, of Ashland, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in Framingham.
She was the wife of Norman Thompson, who died in 1996.
Born in Ashland where she lived all her life, she was the daughter of the late George and Flora (Gordon) Stone.
A graduate of Ashland High School, she was a lifelong member of the Federated Church in Ashland and a 75-year member of Aurelia Rebekah Lodge 80 in Ashland.
She leaves three children, Lloyd A. Thompson of Missouri, Wayne G. Thompson of Vermont and Norma E. Russell of Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. 
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m., at the Federated Church, Main Street, Ashland.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Matarese Funeral Home in Ashland.

Karl R. Toner Jr.
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Karl R. Toner Jr., 84, of Coral Springs, Fla., and Norway, Maine, formerly of Ashland and Framingham, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, the son of Karl R. and Elizabeth (Plummer) Toner, he attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1940. He entered Bates College with the Class of 1944, but due to military service did not receive his bachelor's degree until 1948.
He entered the Navy in 1943, went through flight training and was a naval aviator and flight instructor at war's end. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and, following helicopter training, was assigned to the Atlantic fleet.
Mr. Toner was employed in the advertising department of Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham from 1949 until October 1951, when he joined Dickie-Raymond Inc., a Boston/New York direct advertising agency, as a copywriter. In 1954, he became an account executive and, in 1967, was elected a vice president of client services. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was plant manager of Ultimate Engineering Inc. in Natick.
He returned to civilian life in December 1953, but remained active in the Naval Air Reserve until retiring with the rank of commander. His last assignment prior to retirement was as commanding officer of an anti-submarine helicopter squadron out of the South Weymouth Naval Air Station.
He resided in Framingham and Ashland for 40 years and was a member of Plymouth Church in Framingham, where he served as deacon and trustee.
Following his retirement in 1988, Mr. Toner spent his summers at the family residence on Lake Penaseewasee in Norway, Maine, and since 1986 spent winters in Deerfield Beach and Coral Springs.
He leaves his three children, Karl Toner III and his wife, Marion, and their daughter, Samantha, of Coral Springs, Allison Toner of Ocala, Fla., and Curtis Toner and his wife, Bibi, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his brother Albert Toner; a niece, Ann Frey and her daughter, Heather; and a nephew, Karl A. Toner and his family.
A private committal service will held at the convenience of the family. 

Marilyn K. Walsh
NAPLES, Fla. - Marilyn Kelley Walsh, 70, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Sherborn and Dorchester, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples. 
Born and raised in Dorchester, a daughter of the late Coleman and Catherine (Kelley) Walsh, she spent most of her life in the Boston area and devoted her life to raising her six children.
She leaves her children, James Barry and his wife, Barbara, of Maryland, Lynne Scannell and her husband, Bob, of New Jersey, Thomas Barry and his wife, Eileen, of Ohio, John Barry and his girlfriend, Lisa, of South Carolina, Susan Waldo and her husband, Jim, of Virginia and Kathy O'Connell and her husband, Tom, of New York; a brother, Ronald Walsh of Naples; two sisters, Patricia Walsh and Kathy Hughes and her husband, Bill, all of Naples; eight grandchildren, Shaun, Taylor, Victoria, Madison, Matthew, James, Tommy and Jillian; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn. The Rev. Brian Mahoney, pastor of St. Theresa of Lisieux Church, Sherborn, will officiate.
There will be no funeral home calling hours.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Frances Georgeson Hospice House, 1095B Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34104.
