 Antonio Bonifacio Couto, beloved father and grandfather, aged 64 years, of Taunton, died Friday, June 12, 2009. He was born on São Miguel Island, Azores. He moved to the United States in 1969 and was extremely proud of his American citizenship. He was predeceased by his parents Manuel Felipe and Elvira (Bonifacio) Couto. Antonio is survived by his son Louis Couto, wife Donna and their children Sarah and Kyle of East Taunton; daughter Elizabeth Friedrichs, husband David and their children Ian and Isabel of Rochester; daughter Susie LaBelle, husband Stephen and their son Nolan of East Freetown. Antonio was the brother of Tiberio Raposo of Montreal, the late Manuel Couto of Montreal, Mary Jo Medeiros of New Jersey, Bertha Medeiros of Taunton, and Mary Lou Miguel of  Antonio also had many nieces and nephews. He was a retired machine operator for 34 years at Rand McNally I Quebecor World. He was a hard working, self-taught master craftsman who loved to keep busy -  gladly helping and encouraging his family in many ways. He made sure he always had time for his family -  whether it was working or having fun with them. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. More than a father, he was an optimistic, encouraging, supportive and loyal friend. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, on Friday, June 19th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, E.  Arthur L. Viera, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died at the Marian Manor on June 15, 2009 at the age of 83. He was the husband of the late Elsie A. (Lawrence) Viera. Born in Norton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Augusta (Rodrigues) Viera. A resident of Raynham, he resided in Taunton for many years. Educated in Taunton schools, he was later employed by the former Geilich Tannery. In his later years, Mr. Viera also worked as a part-time bartender for the former Leca’s Café, later known as Richard’s in Whittenton. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed spending time working in the yard. He also enjoyed summers on Cape Cod. His favorite pastime was watching his great-grandsons play Little League baseball. Survivors include 3 sons, Ernest J. “Sonny” Correia, Jr. of Berkley, John E. Correia of Taunton, and Arthur L. Viera, Jr. of Swansea; 2 daughters, Marion A. Long of Eliot, ME and Beverly A. Crowninshield of Raynham; a brother, Edward Viera of Dighton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Viera, Lena Gonsalves, and Laura Correia. David S. Bardsley, 51, of North Reading, passed away June 15, 2009 after battling cancer. He is survived by his two children Jaime and her companion Shawn Kelley of Watertown, Scott of North Grafton and their mother Gloria (Horton) Bardsley of North Grafton, his parents, Sherwin and Pauline (Spear) Bardsley of South Grafton, three brothers, Jef and his wife Leslie of Shrewsbury, Rand and his wife Susan of Grafton, John and his wife Mary in New Hampshire, his fiancée Cindy LaRose and her daughters Amanda LaRose, Erica Mallett all of N. Reading, three nieces, three nephews and his dog "Scruffy". He was born October 25, 1957, raised in Westborough and had lived in Grafton and North Reading. David was a graduate of The Wilbraham Monson Academy and The Rhode Island Technical School of Science being certified as an automobile technician. Dave then began his career as an auto technician for many years until founding his own company, Wave Engineering with a store on Main St. in North Reading selling and installing high quality audio visual equipment and systems. Dave loved boating and fishing from Heron Way Marina in Gloucester throughout the area around Cape Ann. He also enjoyed automobiles of all kinds particularly his 1967 Camaro along with many types of motorsports, snow skiing and music of all kinds bringing it to his friends and customers through his expertise. Harold F. Bonney EAST BRIDGEWATER Harold F. Bonney of East Bridgewater and formerly of Brockton, died peacefully while surrounded by his two lovely daughters on June 17. He was age 85. Harold was born in Brockton and attended St. Patricks School and was a graduate of Brockton High School. After school he joined the US NAVY and served in WWII. After the war he married the late Elizabeth (Clarke) and they lived in Brockton. The two were married for over 61 years. They raised their children in Brockton before moving to East Bridgewater 25 years ago. Harold was the owner of Bonney Television of Brockton for 24 years before becoming the Brockton Veterans Agent from which he retired from after 20 years. Harold loved his family, friends, and neighbors and would always have a smile and would do anything for anyone. Harold was the son of the late Margaret and Frank Bonney. He was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth K. (Clarke) Bonney. Loving father of Virginia OConnor Walker and her husband Lyle of VA and Kathy and her husband Timothy Hanifan of Weymouth. He was 78 years of age. He was raised and educated in Dorchester and moved to Weymouth in 1985. He retired in 1988 after working 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service at the South Postal Annex. He was also a longtime employee of the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in Dorchester. Among his interests, he enjoyed bowling and fishing. He also enjoyed meeting his friends and playing pool at The Cliff Hanger in North Weymouth. U.S. Air Force Veteran, Korean War. Ed was married for 49 years to his late beloved wife Mary A. Dr. Ronald Leland Brackett HULL Dr. Ronald Leland Brackett, 68, of Hull, died Saturday, June 13th at South Shore Hospital. Ron was born on April 8, 1941 in Weymouth, the son of Henry and Mary (OKane) Brackett. Ron graduated from Norwich University Class of 1964 and from the University of Pennsylvania with a DMD in 1972. He served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Italy during the Vietnam era. Ron was an active 30 year member of the Hingham-Weymouth Kiwanis Club and had served as Lt. Governor at one time. Ron was passionate about dentistry and took great pride in his work. He had owned his own dental practice in the Weymouth and Norwell areas for many years. He was an avid reader and loved to discuss politics and baseball. He loved to reminisce about his days at Norwich University and was proud of his military service that followed and that his son, Laurence, followed in his footsteps. He will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, his love of ice cream and the Red Sox. We will all remember his valuable advice that he loved to give out to his family and friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed. Ron was pre-deceased by his wife Sandra (Grant) in 1981. He is survived by his wife Anna of Hull, daughter Virginia Marggraf and her husband Jeff of Salem, NH, son Laurence Brackett and his wife Kathleen of Manassas, VA, stepchildren Howard Back Jr. and his wife Linda of Dayton, OH, Catherine Back of Braintree, Timothy Back of Hull, Eric Back of Rockland and Heidi Chaudoir and her husband Michael of Appleton, WI, brothers Henry Brackett of Lee, NH and Kenneth Brackett and his wife Grace of Mission Viejo, CA, sisters Corinne Schreck and her husband Keith of Orange, CA, Marion Marlow and her husband Robert of Houston, TX and Debbie Lampson and her husband David of Orange, CA. Joseph F. Brophy QUINCY Joseph F. Brophy, of Quincy passed away at home on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at age 84. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he was a graduate of Mission High and Boston College, Class of 1950. A WWII veteran US Navy Air Corps aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex, Joe was a gunner on a dive bomber and was awarded an Air Medal with 5 stars, a Distinguished Flying Cross and Presidential Unit Citation for heroism against Japan. He worked as a broker for Wausau Insurance in Belmont, retiring in 1988 and was active in Sons of Italy, Quincy City Club, St. Vincent de Paul and Most Blessed Sacrament Holy Name Society, was a founding member and first president of the Hough's Neck Community Council, a member of the USS Essex Association and was a former Park Commissioner for the city. The beloved husband of Ann (Sideri) Brophy, he was the loving father of Dennis M. Brophy and his wife Karen of Duluth, GA and Joseph F. Omer J. Dufour WEST BRIDGEWATER Omer J. Dufour, 85 years, of West Bridgewater, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, after a brief illness. He was the loving husband for 65 years of Lucia M. (Bolduc) Dufour. Born and raised in St. Isodore dAuckland, Quebec, Canada, he was a son of the late Jules and Josephine M. (Martin) Dufour. Omer left Canada as a young man and had been a resident of the Brockton area for 40 years. He started his career as a lumberjack in Canada and made his living as an operating engineer. In his retirement, he worked at LD Plastics in Brockton. Omer was a member of the Local 4 Union and the Knights of Columbus and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening with his wife but his true love was his family. In addition to his wife, he was the father of 10 children, Marguerite Darling of Turner, Maine, Mariette Thomas of Brockton, Caroline Michel of Prince George, Va., Lina Dufour of Bridgewater, Normand Dufour of Brockton, Regis Dufour of West Roxbury, Anita Harlfinger of North Easton, Bernadette Braden of Hampton, Va., Raymond Dufour of Chesterfield, Va., and the late Yvan Dufour of Meridian, Idaho. He also leaves 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Yvonne Rose, Yvette McElroy and Juliette Boisvert, all of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and the late Fernand, Gerard, Ovila, Aurele and Leo Dufour. MOVSESIAN, Edward N. 85, died June 15, 2009, at Maine Medical Center. Ed was born October 4, 1923, in Revere, MA, the son of Setrak and Zaroohi (Saferian) Movsesian. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later graduated from Tufts College with a degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Boeing in Seattle, where he met Shirley Ann Briggs of Snoqualmie Falls, WA. They married on May 12, 1950. They later settled in Lynnfield, MA, where they lived until his retirement from G.E. in 1986, when they moved to Meredith, NH. In 2001, Ed and Shirley settled in York, ME. Ed worked as an engineer for General Electric in Lynn, MA for 35 years. His survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley, of York; his daughters, Janis Urbanek, Sherry Granger, and Sue Publicover; and his sons, Ed M. Movsesian and David Movsesian; and his grandchildren, Ryan Publicover, Lauren Urbanek, Allison Urbanek, Michael Granger, Cory Granger, and Jason Movsesian; and several nieces and nephews. Elouise G. (Sherman) Carlson of Raynham, formerly of Easton, passed away on Monday June 15, 2009 at the South East Rehabilitation Center in Easton after a period of failing health. She was 96. She was born in New Bedford, she grew up in Easton and graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1929.  She graduated from Bridgewater State College where she earned a Master's Degree. She taught most of her career in Easton Public Schools holding positions as Principal and reading supervision. She went back to classroom instructor where she enjoyed working with 2nd grade children.  She moved to Raynham in 1984 where she enjoyed Bingo, shopping and going to lunch with her friends at Pine Hill Estates. She was the Daughter of the Late Walter E. and Ruth (Marble) Sherman. The devoted wife of the late Carl G.Carlson. Loving mother of Carl G. Carlson of Middleboro, David S. Carlson of Hudson, FL, the late John W. Carlson of NH. Sister of Dorothy Wood of Athens, GA, Elizabeth Palmer of TX, and the late Edward  A."Bud" Sherman of Bridgewater. Josephine P. (Astrella) Evangelista, 84, of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at UMass Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Her husband, Joseph J. Evangelista, pre-deceased her in 1990. She is survived by her loving children, John A. Evangelista and his wife Paula F. Evangelista of Shrewsbury and Jodi A. Venuti and her husband Arthur J. Venuti of Worcester; two brothers, James Astrella of Holden and Nicholas Astrella of Worcester; a sister, Dolores Rossetti of Shrewsbury; two grandsons, Nicholas and Joseph Evangelista; two step-grandchildren, Courtney and Christopher Venuti; many nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by three brothers and three sisters, Andrew, Rocco, and Frank Astrella, Ann Ducharme, Phyllis Vacca and Victoria Gonya. Born in Worcester, daughter of James Rocco and Josephine (Vinzi) Astrella, she graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, and has lived here all her life. Mrs. Evangelista worked as a line supervisor at the former G.E. Telecron Company. She was a member of the former Saint Margaret Mary Parish, and was attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann. She belonged to the Frohsinn Club, the Town and Country Bowling League, and the former Rose Club. H. Audrey Fitch, 80, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday in St. Vincent's Hospital after a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Fitch, Jr.; a son, Robert E. Fitch, of Gloucester; a son, David J. Fitch and his wife Sandy of Framingham; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A son, Charles G. Fitch, III, predeceased her. She was born in Quincy; she was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Katherine (Silva) Curry. Mrs. Fitch worked as a medical secretary for many years. She attended Mt. St. Mary's College. Mrs. Fitch loved the beach; she spent many summers at Rocky Nook. She enjoyed travel, and was an avid painter, she volunteered for AARP. Martha B. (Carr) Gearan, 90, a lifelong Gardner resident, died Monday, June 15, surrounded by her family at the Baldwinville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Gardner February 5, 1919, Mrs. Gearan was the youngest child of William and Mary (Winters) Carr who had immigrated to the United States from Louisburg, County Mayo, Ireland in 1913. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Gardner High School in 1936. She brought her many talents and personal attributes to her work as Director of Volunteers at Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital in Gardner for nearly 20 years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed her part time work at the Westminster Council on Aging. The wife of the late John S. Gearan, the former Gardner High School Principal, who died 40 years ago, Mrs. Gearan exhibited great strength and resilience throughout her life. Gifted with a remarkable ability to build and sustain friendships across generations, Mrs. Gearan was known and admired by her family and friends for her warm hospitality and unique ability to create a welcoming environment for all who entered her home at frequent gatherings and events. Mrs. Gearan was very proud of her Irish heritage and was an avid follower of politics, from the national to the local level. In addition, she had a broad range of interests and artistic talents that graced her home and those of others. Accomplished in painting, quilting, crewel work and all types of crafts, she enjoyed the challenge of home decorating projects and the creativity of design. Her engaging personality, love of people and sense of humor brought joy to the many people who encountered her presence. Mrs. Gearan was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations in the Gardner area and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church. She was elected to the Gardner School Committee in 1971 receiving the highest vote total of any candidate seeking office that year. She served on the Board of the Montachusett Home Care Corporation and had leadership roles in the Sacred Heart Church Centennial Fund; Catholic Women's Club, Gardner History Club and Gardner Women's Club. Mrs. Gearan was the devoted mother of three children: daughter, Maryalice Svare and her husband Bruce of Delmar, N.Y.; two sons, Jay Gearan and his wife Janice of Gardner; and Mark Gearan and his wife Mary of Geneva, N.Y. She was a proud and caring grandmother to John Svare of Wilton, N.Y., Mark Svare and his wife Erin of Hyde Park, MA., Jack Gearan of Chestnut Hill, MA, and Michael Gearan of Chestnut Hill, MA, Madeleine and Kathleen Gearan of Geneva, N.Y. Recently she joyfully welcomed her great-granddaughter, Nuala Svare. Mrs. Gearan was predeceased by five siblings, three of whom were born in Ireland: John A. Carr, W. Joseph Carr, Patrick J. Carr, Harold Carr and a sister Mae Francavilla. She valued the friendship of sisters-in-law who also predeceased her: Eleanor Gearan, Margaret (Gearan) Bourque, Mary (Gearan) Dunn, Dorothy Carr, Doris Carr, and Florence Carr. Rose M. Gowell WESTON Rose M. Gowell, of Weston, died peacefully Tuesday morning, June 16, 2009, at the Milford Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. She was 95. Born on March 2, 1914, in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lauricella) Favaloro, Rose was a raised in Jamaica Plain and came to Weston in 1950, where she was a resident until moving to her daughters home in Bellingham several months ago. Rose was a devoted and faithful parishioner of Saint Julias Church in Weston, where she taught religious education for over 28 years. She volunteered as a Teachers Aide and Lunch Mother for over 30 years in the Weston Public School System at local elementary schools. In her spare time, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends by playing the piano, as a young woman she enjoyed square dancing and traveling, but most of all she was passionate about playing a mean game of cribbage. Beloved wife of the late William B. Gowell and mother of the late Diane Gowell. Rose is survived by her devoted daughters, Mary L. Lynch and her soul mate Harry of Quincy and Bellingham, Elizabeth Nawn of Newton, and Elaine R. Laney Fortin and her husband Denis of Bellingham, her dear sister Marie Lehane of Scituate, and her loving grandchildren Michael Fortin and Jennifer Fortin and her fiance Jeffrey Mitchell. Grace J. McNamara passed away peacefully in Stuart, FL on June 13, 2009. Born in Taunton, MA, on May 11, 1913, she became a secretary and office manager for the Harrison George Insurance Agency.  She retired to Florida. She was predeceased by siblings Louise McNamara Irving, J. Stewart McNamara, Barbara McNamara Podworny, Ray McNamara, and Kathy McNamara Secher.  She was also predeceased by a beloved young niece LoriLee Secher. She is survived by her loving remaining nieces and nephews Donna Irving Armon, Bob Irving, Bill Irving, Bruce McNamara, Jan Podworny Sorokowski, Carol Podworny Knapp, Paul McNamara, Sandy Secher Perullo, Bill Secher, Kathy Secher and Gary Secher. Roland Paul LeBlanc, 54, passed away on June 13th, after an illness, at Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility in Leicester. He was born Nov. 6, 1955 in Southbridge, Ma. Mr. LeBlanc worked as a mechanic and contractor for various jobs. He leaves behind three daughters, Tracy Montenez, Tanya LeBlanc, and Tabbatha Maina, as well as several grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he went to work for Kutz Textile Inc., Boston, MA which was started by his older brother Cecil. She enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, playing bridge, and was an avid reader. HOLLISTON Henry F. Nelson, Sr. 76, of Holliston, formerly of Dorchester, died in Milford Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was the husband of the late Joanne M. (Burke) Nelson. Born in Boston, on January 6, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry V. and Elizabeth Nelson. Mr. Nelson graduated from Milton High School, Class of 1951 and Northeastern University School of Management in 1956. Mr. Nelson retired from the Frank Russell Trust Co. as a financial manager in 1989. Prior to that, he was a pension fund manager for the City of Boston and State of Massachusetts. A resident of Dorchester most of his life, he was a sailing and sports enthusiast and was a President, Treasurer and Coach of Dorchester Lower Mills Youth Hockey League. He founded the Codman Hill Civic Association and Lower Mills Villager newspaper and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 180 DLM. He is survived by his sons; Henry F. Nelson, Jr. of Medfield, John E. Nelson of Quincy and Robert J. Nelson of Holliston. He was the brother of David E. Nelson of Marthas Vineyard, Peter Nelson of Oakton, VA and the late William P. Charles D. Ponder Sr. EAST BRIDGEWATER Charles D. Charlie Ponder Sr., 64, of East Bridgewater, died Tuesday, June 16, surrounded by his family, at home. He was the loving husband of Marjorie J. (Cole) Ponder. Charles was born in Tuplo, Miss., and was a son of the late Talmedge and Tina (Archer) Ponder. Charlie grew up in Mississippi, until the age of 12. He has been a resident of East Bridgewater for the past 35 years. He was employed by the Polaroid Corporation for 25 years and a welder for Buildout Company for the past three years. Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965. He was a 2nd class petty officer on the USS Okinawa during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He enjoyed restoring cars, woodworking, target shooting and working with his hands. In addition to his loving wife Marjorie, he was the loving father of Charles D. Ponder Jr. and his wife Jane of East Bridgewater and Cheri J. Lynda M. (Bergstrom) Pratte, 60, of Birchwood Drive, died Thursday, June 11 at home with her husband by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Lynda is survived by her husband, Stephen Pratte, her daughter, Dianna LaPlume of Worcester, a granddaughter, Samantha LaPlume and many friends and family members. She was predeceased by a son, Robert LaPlume. Lynda was born in Worcester on Oct. 8, 1948, her father and mother were the late Lewis and Rita Bergstrom, both of Worcester. She was a graduate of Fanning Trade High School in Worcester. Lynda worked at Honeywell, Coghlin Electrical, Columbia Tech and also worked as a Home Health Aide for Home Staffing. Lynda was a member of the Women's Auxiliary, Eagles Club 334 in Southbridge. Lynda's passions were her family, friends, cats, rock concerts, hiking, hunting, camping and her loving husband. MOAKLEY, Robert F. Of West Newton and Falmouth, formerly of South Boston, MA, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 16, 2009, at the age of 78. Bob is survived by his wife, Maureen (O'Keefe-Nugent). He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, and re-enlisted in 1952. He is a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Bob's extensive employment career consists of rising to the rank of Detective in the Boston Police Department, Suffolk Superior Court Officer, Director of Veteran Employment for the Department of Labor, Regional Director for the Veterans' Administration covering New England, New York & New Jersey, and finally accepted the position of Attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines for the Veterans' Administrations. He is a member of the Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post #561 in South Boston and a lifelong member of the VFW, AMVETS & DAV. Bob enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod, playing golf and sailing. Brother of the late Congressman Joe Moakley of South Boston and Thomas Moakley and his wife Doris of Braintree. He is also survived by his former wife Evelyn (Welch). Loving father of Evelyn Gibson of Woodbridge, VA, Candia Papile of Quincy, Robert F. Moakley, Jr. of South Boston and Mary Moakley of Quincy. MIDDLEBORO Avis E. Swift, 78, a longtime resident of Middleboro, died Monday, after a prolonged period of ill health. She had resided at the Oak Hill Nursing Home for the past two years. During her younger years, she was a telephone operator and homemaker. A victim of Juvenile Diabetes, she received a medal from Joslin Clinic of Boston for surviving 50 years with the disease. Marriages blessed her with three children, who survive her, Wendy A. Tedesco of Middleboro, Mark J. Caruso of Plainfield, N.H., and Eric H. Caruso of Bridgewater; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to the Perkins School for the Blind Talking Books Library, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472. David I. Walsh Sr., 78, formerly of 10 Foster Hill Road, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Quaboag on the Common. He was the husband of the late Joan (Tardy) Walsh who died in 1989. He leaves one son, David I. Walsh Jr. and his wife Lorraine A. of West Brookfield; 2 grandchildren, Erin K. Walsh of Worcester and David I. Walsh III of West Brookfield; two nephews, Paul Wyman of Ware and Peter Wyman of North Brookfield; a niece, Pamela Forgnoli of Spencer. He was born in West Brookfield son of Martin and Catherine (Lowery) Walsh and was a life long resident. David was the Post Master in West Brookfield for many years until his retirement and previously worked for New England Telephone. He was a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. MILFORD Dawn V. Wellington, 48, of Milford, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. She was born in Waltham, daughter of Loretta (Hill) Wellington of Millville and the late Maynard Wellington. She lived in Waltham before moving to Milford many years ago. She was a graduate of the Waltham High school class of 1978. She was employed as a waitress at Dunkin Donuts in Milford for over 20 years. In addition to her mother she is survived by her boyfriend of many years, Richard St. George of Milford, one brother Joel and his wife Rita Wellington of Jay, ME, one sister Kim L. and her husband Francis Burke of Millville.
