One of six original inductees into Preservation Worcester's Hall of Fame, Mr. Herron said he "moved to Worcester in 1951 as a modern architect aiming to transform the city with aluminum and glass until he saw Mechanics Hall" -- at which point he became a committed preservationist. Although fully embracing Worcester, his Ohio roots remained strong throughout his adult life, returning regularly to Chillicothe where he succeeded his siblings as managing partner of the family farms, portions of which had been acquired in the 1830's. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 at All Saints Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. Contributions may be made to Preservation Worcester to support the Frannie Herron Park in Crown Hill (10 Cedar Street, Worcester 01609) or to the All Saints Church for the benefit of the choirs (10 Irving St., Worcester, 01609). |
