Berkshire Eagle Online - Obituaries : "NORTH ADAMS -- Fred J. Brown, 87, a former resident of Saxtons River, Vt., and of North Adams and Pittsfield, died Monday at the Center for Learning and Rehab in Bennington, Vt." A funeral Mass for Fred J. Brown, who died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Edmund's Church in Saxtons River, Vt. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at FENTON & HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME in Bellows Falls, Vt. 

SANDISFIELD -- Eloise C. Carr, 79, of 44 Sandisfield Road died Monday at home. She was a longtime School Board member.The funeral for Eloise C. Carr, who died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at New Boston Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Sandisfield Cemetery.

STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. -- Marie L. Gilliland, 68, of Garfield Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.- A private funeral and inurnment for Marie L. Gilliland, who died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, will be in East Nassau Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to HALL & HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will greet visitors. 

PITTSFIELD -- Jean M. Mayhew, 80, formerly of 109 Housatonic St., Lenox, died Monday at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness.The funeral for Jean Mayhew, who died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Lenox by the Rev. Valerie Roberts-Toler.

PITTSFIELD -- Julianne Scales, 68, of 22 Christopher Arms died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.Following cremation, a graveside service for Mrs. Julianne Scales, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be held Friday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in Pittsfield Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to meet inside the cemetery gates at 1:45 p.m.

PITTSFIELD -- Gerald George "Jed" Smith, 75, of 118 Broadview Terrace died Monday at home after a long battle with cancer.Services for Gerald George "Jed" Smith, who died Monday, Sept. 17, will be private.

RICHMOND -- The Rev. Philip Haseltine Southwick, 73, of Gloucester died Sept. 13  A memorial service for the Rev. Philip Haseltine Southwick, who died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, will be held at First Congregational Church of Georgetown, UCC, on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel Vincent, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton, Fla. Entombment will follow at Boca Raton Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at BABIONE FUNERAL HOME (East Chapel).

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Joyce Whalen, 75, of Egrement Road died Sunday at Fairview Hospital. The funeral for Joyce Wylie Whalen, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles Van Ausdall, pastor. Burial will follow in Mahaiwe Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington.
