Raised in both Boston and Minneapolis, Minn., she summered on the Cape at her parents' cottage, "Beach Manse," in Brewster, where she gained a passion for sailing and swimming. She graduated from Bethany Lutheran high school in Mankato, Minn., in 1934. After high school, Hope worked, among other jobs, as "The Story Lady" at a local Boston radio station. She and George made their home at "Bali" in East Orleans. After George's death, Hope split her time between the Cape and Florida. Born on Oct. 6, 1932, in Meelick, County Galway, Ireland, Jack came to America as a young child and was raised and educated in Hyde Park, Mass. He moved to Cape Cod in 1954; living there until five years ago when he retired to "The Plantation" in Leesburg.
