Albert Oliveira

Albert Oliveira age 82 formerly of 61 Rowley St., Swansea. Widower of Lydia Ann (Silvia) Oliveira. Son of the late Manuel & Hortense (Oliveira) Oliveira. Passed away Sept. 4, 2007. Born in Fall River, he was a Swansea resident for many years, a member of St. Thomas More Church & a retiree from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years serving in WW II & during Korea & Viet Nam with rank of Master Sgt. He was shot down in 1944 in Germany flying for the 491 st Air Division. He also retired from the MA Veteran’s Administration where he was a Field Agent & Licensed Social Worker for 23 years. He was a member of the of the 2nd Air Division Assoc., Retired State & County Municipal Employees, MA & RI Bow Hunters Assoc., Elks, Somerset Sportsman’s Club, DAV, AARP, & American Legion Post #303. 
He is survived by l Daughter: Mrs. David (Cherylanne) Boudria of Fall River. 1 Grandson: Christian S. Boudria & Several Nieces & Nephews. He was Brother of the late Joseph & Everett Oliveira. 
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home Thursday at 8:00 A.M. with a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas More Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours Wednesday 4-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.

Henry Motta
SOMERSET — Henry Motta, 81, of Somerset passed away Sunday September 2, 2007 at his residence. He was the husband of fifty nine years to Florence (Cabral) Motta. Henry was born in Fall River on September 13, 1925, the son of the late Joseph and Cecelia (Alves) Motta. Mr. Motta served his country during WWII with the United States Navy. He then worked for twenty four years as a rigger for the Electric Boat Company in Groton, and retired in 1990.
Henry was a communicant of Saint John of God Church in Somerset, enjoyed painting, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Survivors beside his wife of fifty nine years are two daughters Melanie Swanson and her husband Larry of Swansea, Debora Felton of Riverside, two sons Douglas Motta and his wife Sharon of Fall River, Richard Motta and his wife Joanne of Somerset, two sisters Cecelia Warmsley of Swansea Rosalind Medeiros of Westport, two brothers Joseph Motta of Florida John Motta of Fall River. He was the loving grandfather of Brandt, Ashlee, Stephanie, Lisa, Douglas, Tyler, Sherri, Krisite, also thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Michael Motta, brother of the late Lorraine Davis and Thomas Motta.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 8am from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA followed by a mass of Christian burial at 9am in Saint John of God Church 996 Brayton Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be Private at the Families Request.

Jennie K. Knowe
EAST LONGMEADOW —Jennie K. (Czapiga) Knowe, 91, of Somerset St, East Longmeadow Ma. Formerly of Slade St Fall River, died Monday at the Red Stone Nursing Center, in East Longmeadow. She was the wife of the late Edward F Knowe.
She was born in Fall River a daughter of the late Vincent & Helen (Kocor) Czapiga. She was a presser for many years at local Textile Mills. She was a lifelong Fall River resident before moving to East Longmeadow 6 years ago. She was a parishioner of the former St Williams church now Holy Trinity Church in Fall River. She enjoyed dancing.
She is survived by a son Ronald Knowe of East Longmeadow, a brother and sister in law Peter & Ruth Czapiga of Fall River, a sister and late brother in law Genevieve & the late Henry Kozak of Fall River. 2 grandchildren and their spouses Kelly Ann & Mark Carrington, Douglas M & Michelle Knowe, 2 great grandchildren Alison Mae Carrington, Katie Caroline Knowe. Several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Walter Czapiga, Joseph Czapiga and his wife the late Eva, Julia Czapiga, and also the late Mary “Mae” Skrzypiec and her husband the late Walter.

Thomas S. Rafferty
Thomas S. Rafferty, age 88, of Westport, died Monday in Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River after an illness. He was the husband of Eileen P. (McNally) Rafferty. Born in Massachusetts, a son of the late Thomas S. Rafferty and Katherine Rafferty, he resided in Cambridge during his youth, lived in Arlington for several years, and Fall River for 4 years before moving to Westport in 1977. Mr. Rafferty was a salesman with Utica Boiler Company for over 35 years before retiring. He was a 1936 graduate of Cambridge High & Latin School and a graduate of Franklin Institute in Boston. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Africa, Sicily and Italy during World War II. He was an avid reader and loved to travel and play golf. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters Madeline Hanafin of Arlington, MA, Nancy Cronin of Stoneham, MA, his twin brother James V. Rafferty of Cambridge, MA and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Elizabeth McCusker.
His funeral mass will be held Friday at 11AM in St. Georges Church, 12 Highland Ave. Westport. Relatives and friends invited. Ruth T. Smith
Ruth T. (Sullivan) Smith, 92, of Tiverton, died, Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at home. She was the wife of the late Lynwood E.B. Smith.
Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Driscoll) Sullivan. She had been a resident of Fall River before moving to Tiverton in 1958.
Mrs. Smith was a 1934 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. She was a Dental Assistant for her brother-in-law the late Dr. W. Arthur Leary for many years. She was a member of the Sakonnet Club of Tiverton, the Tiverton Senior Citizens Club, and the Tiverton Senior Center. She and her late husband were active members of the Knights of Columbus Father J. Boehr Council #4753 in Tiverton.  
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Brother Francis Leary C.S.C. of Flushing, NY., Sheila Leary Craig and her husband Michael of Annandale, VA., Judith Duval and her husband Paul of Fall River, Patricia Kayajan of Middleboro, Sylvia Quinn and her husband Lawrence of Somerset, Phyllis Robb and her husband George of Somerset, Joan Thompson and her husband Russell of Minchin Viejo, CA., and Sandra Goerlitz of Yorba Linda, CA. She was sister of the late Rev. Leo T. Sullivan, Brother Daniel Sullivan O.F.M., Henry Sullivan, Ethel Leary, and Kathleen McGrath.  
Her Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, August 30, 2007 in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Outreach 502 Bedford St. Fall River, MA 02720. Arrangements were in the care of the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE Fall River. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.   

William J. Sullivan
Sullivan, William J., age 68, of Fall River, Massachusetts, and North Palm Beach, Florida, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at his residence on Sawdy Pond. He was the husband of Margaret Mary (Nawrocki) Sullivan. They were married for 46 years. William “Bill” was a prominent area funeral director and avid yachtsman.
He was born in Fall River, a son of the late William S. and Rose E. (Harrington) Sullivan, both past members of the Fall River School Committee. Mr. Sullivan was a life-long resident of Fall River, with a summer residence at Sawdy Pond. For the past seven years, he and his wife, Margaret Mary, were winter residents of North Palm Beach.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1956, he received a B.A. degree from Providence College in 1960. In 1964, he received a M.A. degree in Education from Bridgewater State College, and taught English at Morton Junior High School in Fall River.
In 1965, Mr. Sullivan and his wife both graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Mortuary Sciences, and joined the family funeral home founded by his grandfather, the late Jeffrey E. Sullivan. With his wife, mother and brother, the firm expanded with acquisition of the C.P. Harrington Funeral Home, which became the Harrington-Sullivan Funeral Home. In 1980, they continued to expand with the opening of the Rose E. Sullivan Funeral Home in Somerset, Massachusetts. In 1997, the Sullivan’s joined the Waring family and Affiliated Family Homes of Service Corporation International. The new firm became known as the Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute, serving the South coast area at six locations. Mr. Sullivan, and his wife, Margaret Mary continued to serve the firm as Senior Service Counselors.
Mr. Sullivan has been a member of the Board of Directors for Slade’s Bank since 1985. He served on the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Community Reinvestment Act and was a member of the Compensation Committee.
Mr. Sullivan was a Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served as a Mortuary Officer at Fort Leslie J. McNair, in the military district of Washington, D.C. In 1962, he was transferred to the inactive army as a First Lieutenant. He was a member, past President, and former Treasurer of the Fall River Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member and former Director of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association and a member of the Clover Club, serving as past President and member of the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Quequechan Club in Fall River, and the Westport Fisherman’s Association.
During his youth, he summered in the Hummocks with his mother Rose and brother Jeff. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Fall River, where he was past President of its Men’s Club, and former Chairman of the parish phase of the Catholic Charities Appeal. He later became a communicant of the Holy Name Parish, and served as past President of its Men’s Club, a founder of the 1923 Club, and a member of the Holy Name School Committee. In 1996, Cardinal Bernard Law installed Mr. Sullivan and his wife Margaret as Knight and Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. While wintering in North Palm Beach, Florida, he was a communicant at St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Sullivan was a lifelong, avid, and accomplished sailor. His vessel, the Irishwake, a Pearson 424 Ketch, was a familiar fixture in the surrounding waters of Buzzards Bay, Narragansett Bay, Newport, and the Elizabeth Islands.
Mr. Sullivan was predeceased by his oldest son, William S. Sullivan. He is survived by five children, daughter Kellyann Frank and her husband Steven A. of Westport, MA, son Christopher J. Sullivan of Houston, TX, daughter Margaret Sullivan M.D. and her husband Timothy J. White of Lakeville, MA, son Stephen E. Sullivan and his wife Wendy L. of Swansea, MA, and daughter Kathryn S. Davis and her husband Jeffrey M. of Somerset, MA. Mr. Sullivan has fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jeffrey E. Sullivan.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday September 8, 2007 at 10am in Church of the Holy Name 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. His visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River. Tammy Lynn August
Tammy Lynn suddenly passed away August 22, 2007. Born in Fall River on December 29, 1976. She was 30. She was the daughter of Denise Linsey and the Late Richard August. She is survived by her mother and stepfather William Givens, Children Jennifa, Gregory and Issac Lewis, Jayden and Jashaun August, brother Kenneth August and nephew Robert Bouchard. Many aunts and uncles and cousins. Services were private.

Lucilia Nogueira
Lucilia Nogueira, 84, died Thursday at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, daughter of the late Francisco and Beatriz (Mesquita) Alves Pereira. She had been a machine operator at the former Anderson Little Co. and was a member of Ateneu Luso Americano Church. She leaves a brother, Amadeu, and 2 sisters, Fernanda and Natercia, all of Portugal and 3 nieces. Her funeral was private. www.silvafaria.com.
