Nuno A. Vertentes
Nuno A. “Cheyenne” Vertentes, 57, of Fall River died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at home. He was employed by the former North American Rubber Thread, Fall River and was the organizer of its soccer team. A member of the Santo Christo Club, Fall River, he was a great father and a great friend. He played the harmonica.
His survivors include children, Robert J. and his wife Amy Vertentes, Joshua T. and his wife Ana Vertentes, Tracy L. and her husband Elvis Costa and Melissa M. Vententes, grandchildren Melanie, Jessica, Symantha, Jaime and Shawn Vertentes and Travis, Drew, Zoey and Ethan Costa and Cruz Rivera and Branden Frazer; parents Antonio and Iesaura (Daroias) Vertentes, all of Fall River; former wife, Beverly Leduc of Newport; siblings, Connie Novo, Louise Oliverira, Rose Rousseau, Lucy Silva, Olga Gaspar, Tony, John, Louie, Lisa, Debbie and Donna Vertentes, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service Monday at 11 AM in AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 S. Main St. Fall River with burial following in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Joyce Moniz
Joyce (Almeida) Moniz, age 64, formerly of Sharps Lot Rd., Swansea. Daughter of the late James & Anna (Agrella) Almeida. Passed away in Fall River August 15, 2007. Born in Fall River, she was a Swansea resident most of her life. She was a Nurse’s Aide at STARR, previously at Clifton, Country Gardens & and Purdy Nursing Care Center. She enjoyed Bingo and was Past Treasurer of Boy Scouts Troop 16 of Swansea.
Besides her former husband Richard Moniz of Swansea, she is survived by 5 Children: Richard Moniz, Jr. & Patricia Moniz both of Fall River, Gregory Moniz & Kendell Moniz-Amaral both of Swansea & Shannon Lee Moniz of Fall River. 1 Brother: James Almeida, Jr. of Somerville, MA, 4 Grandchildren: Tonya Marie Moniz, Mark Savastano, Alexa Leigh Moniz, & Jason Hair. 1 Great Grandson: Anthony Davidson. Several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Griffin
Tiverton, RI — Kenneth P. “Kenny” Griffin, 18, of Tiverton, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Fall River, son of Kenneth T. Griffin of Tiverton and Traci D. Comeau of Chicago, IL and step-son of David A. Comeau, he was a lifelong resident of Tiverton. He attended Tiverton High School, playing on the football team where he was known for his motivational skills. Kenny played Pop Warner Football throughout his life and played baseball for the Twilight League in Fall River. He enjoyed surfing, snowboarding and working on his car, and he will always be remembered as someone who was willing to help everyone.
Including his parents, he is survived by: paternal grandmother; Kathleen Russell of Westport; maternal grandparents; Ronald A. Marshall of Milford, CT and Pauline “Twiggy” Sylvia of Westport; step-grandmother; Katherine R. Marshall of Milford, CT; step-grandfather; Steve J. Medeiros of Westport; sister; Aydan B. Griffin of Tiverton; step-sister; Megan K. Comeau of Fall River; many aunts and uncles including; Tia Tanya, Marlene Scerratto, Jennifer McNellis, Jimmy Griffin, Owen Griffin, Ben Medeiros and Kyle Medeiros; several cousins; and numerous friends including Cory Braz and Andy Paiva.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God, 522 American Legion Highway, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Rose Silvia
Rose V. Silvia, 95, formerly of 142 Brayton Ave, Fall River, died Wednesday at Clifton Nursing Center, Somerset. Widow of Joseph R. Silvia. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late Manuel & Rosa (Amorin) Vieira. A resident of Fall River for most of her life, she worked in the textile industry for many years. She was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Health Church and a member of their Women’s Guild and Holy Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling and was a member of the Royal Travelers Club. Mrs. Silvia is survived by her daughter, Natalie DiRuzza (husband Santi); 2 grandchildren, LTC Barry S. DiRuzza, U.S.A. (wife Jo Dee) & Catherine (DiRuzza) Ellis (husband Edward); 3 great grandchildren, Alexander, Olivia & Cecilia DiRuzza; several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Manuel, Sylvester, Antonio & Joseph Vieira, Florence Borges, Mary Machado, Alzira Leandro & Stella Lajoie. Gerard S. Cote
Gerard S. Cote, 80, of Oliver St., Fall River, husband of the late Irene (Messier) Cote and son of the late Emile and Rose (Riendeau) Cote, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007.
A tree service foreman for 40 years, former Boy Scout Leader and member and former collector of St. Anne Parish he lived in Quebec, Canada for many years and in Fall River for the past 50 years.
Survivors include daughters, Diane Thibodeaux and her husband Dale of Church Point, LA, Jacinthe Barry and her husband Robert of Warwick, RI, Lucie Standish and her husband Jeffrey of Mattawam, MI and Bernadette Becker and her husband Carl of Swansea; George Cote and Tina of Fall River and Maximim Cote and his wife Jeanne of Tiverton; sisters, Lise and Monique Couture, both of St. Hyacinthe, P.Q., Canada; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Doris Banville and Germain, Fernand, Cyr, Rosaire and Sister Jean D’Arc Cote.
His funeral will be held Tuesday from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Anne Church at a time to be announced. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.

Lionel Vieira
Lionel “Danny” Vieira, age 85 of 2414 County St., Dighton.
Widower of Beatrice (Leonardo) Vieira & Son of the late Manuel & Maria (Rodrigues) Vieira. Born in Fall River, he was a resident of Dighton since 1960. Passed away in Taunton August 16, 2007. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Church, Dighton. Before retiring in 1983, he was a Group Leader at Haskon Mfg.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He is survived by 2 sons: Lionel “Dan” J. Vieira of Taunton & John D. Vieira of Oakland, CA. 3 Grandchildren & 3 Nephews. He was Father of the late Mary Ellen Machado & Brother of the late Mary Vieira & Isabel Perry.

William Mello
William R. Mello, 82 of Fall River, MA; died at his home on August 16, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Genevieve (Arruda) Mello and the son of the late Jose R. and Virginia (Med-eiros) Mello. William was born in Cambridge, MA on August 1st 1925 and resided in Fall River since very early childhood. William was a veteran of World War II, having served honorably in the United States Marine Corp 4th Division in the Pacific Campaign. After returning from the war he finished his high school education graduating from Diman Vocational High.
Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie Simeone and husband John of Stoneham, MA and Nancy E. (Chandler) Nadeau and husband Arnold of Fall River.
He was “Papa Bill” to all his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Matthew, William and Daniel Chandler, Sara Chandler Medeiros and husband Eric and Christian and Alessandra Simeone, and he was “Uncle Bill” to his nieces and nephews and all their friends, and Godfather of Allan Arruda and Faith Marie Knight. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Mary Petti of Westport, MA with whom he spent his childhood summers on their family’s farm. She watched over him like a doting big sister.
Mr. Mello retired from the Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC) of Newport, R.I. having worked as a Machinist and Tool Maker from which he received several awards and commendations for his expertise and fine workmanship. He had previously worked for A.J. Mitchell Co. as a foreman of the machine shop.
He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish and formerly of St. Elizabeth’s Parish.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church Stafford Road. Interment with military honors in Notre Dame Cemetery. Anthony A. Rogers, 73, formerly of Dwelly St. Fall River died Thursday, August 16, 2007. He was the son of the late Anthony L. and Lorraine (Rioux) Rogers.
He had been employed by St. Anne Hospital as a boilerman and had attended Diman Regional High School, Fall River.
