Pelis, 84, of Ryan Road in Florence, died Thursday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Holyoke May 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Boleswa and Ludwilwa (Dobrowska) Kisielewski. Sophie was one of 11 children. She was raised in South Amherst and attended Amherst schools. Nancy Stein FORT SMITH, Ark. - Nancy A. Stein, 71, who was born in Northampton and lived in Fort Smith, died on Friday, Aug. 17. She was the daughter of John and Christine Steidler of Northampton. Aref's fall brought Baath to power AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - Former Iraqi President Abdel-Rahman Aref, overthrown more than 35 years ago in a coup that brought Saddam Hussein's Baath party to power, died in Amman early Friday at the age of 91."
